Unity is not uniformity, as our bonds are not an endorsement of consensus. In ‘uniting’ with those who think like us, we inevitably pitch ourselves against those who don’t. Here, the rift widens, and the crusade to sway others into our ideological fold begins.
Christians may use this idea of “unity is not uniformity” to explain the importance of the Holy Spirit. “In Christ, we are able to put our differences aside,” and to some extent, this is true.
