When I arrived in Italy as an Erasmus, I enjoyed using every new word I heard in sentences I made to see people's reaction. One day I was saying something very common and put the word 'zoccola' (whore) somewhere in my sentence. The way everyone stopped, laughed and explained me what it meant was a great memory. To this day, I still love embarrassing myself with languages I am learning.
Genial! Me alegro. What other languages are you learning? I just started studying French again, but its similarity to Spanish made it difficult. Since I was raised in Flemish, picking up on a similar language like German is a bit easier. However, since Spanish still isn't in my bones (I still need to think a lot), learning a similar language has been even more challenging. I think it would be the same if I tried to learn Italian. I might wait until I feel truly fluent in Spanish. – Not for lack of embarrassment, of course ;)
I am learning Korean at the moment. And it's fun. I use this app called Eggbun that is very similar to KTalk (a kind of Korean WhatsApp but better) and watch tons of korean series to keep up. For now, I am better at understanding than speaking, but it will come.
I feel you! I had the same issue when I studied Spanish and Italian, it was very confusing because both languages have the same roots. My Spanish teacher at the time, advised to just keep going for both. She said 'the more you practiced both, the more you will pick up how different they are and you won't be confused anymore.' I took in her advice, and it worked in my case. Now my Spanish is rusty, but I still remember enough of the grammar and vocabulary to not get confused with Italian.
I was completely oblivious to gender in Spanish until recently. I would explain that I speak a lot of words in Spanish, but I know no grammar. The mistakes I have made are innumerable.
I still mix up hunger and man, with amusing results
