"ChatGPT is the Hannah Gadsby or John Mulaney of humour—clean, polished, and unable to make me laugh."

Hopefully you've been saving this line for a long time. It's a good one! LOL

Haha nope, but I didn’t think of it until my 4th draft. I’ll admit it took me a bit :p

"I also turned to the type of writing that any sane person seeking financial validation and recognition would attempt—poetry." :D

Loved this line.

Did Chat GPT help you write it? ;)

Haha, thank you! And nope. ChatGPT can't do sarcasm.

I know - it does have its limitations. I like chat gpt as an idea buddy though. It is always eager to help. Not for my creative writing but for anything a bit tedious i find it like having a colleague to bounce ideas off.

I also like your idea of regular poems on notes - it is a good one. Whether they bring you validation and recognition - it is another outlet and way to explore in this curious space.

“Chat GPT as an idea buddy” is a good way of looking at it. I also like it to organize some ideas.

AI aaaaaaalways sounds generic for some reason.

We write, create, not to achieve a finished product. Whoever uses it, will eventually feel hollow. That’s my prediction and I’m sticking to it.

You’re, the art and joy in the process, not just product. Art is about play and exploration. Unfortunately, there are those who demand due dates and speed and convenience. AI will be part of the writing world and I think it’s worth exploring how it will affect the craft.

Nolan, I’ve been thinking about what you’ve said about due dates, speed, convenience - long before AI, that was happening. I was in that field. Countless others too. It was exciting.

I think people have been brainwashed into believing they neeeeed AI or they will never manage. AI will be a part of the writing world because many are now convinced need it.

No one’s talking about how much money the developers of AI are making.

That’s true. Well, a lot of people are talking about the money in AI. I’m bombarded by it.

financial validation? sane people? usually not so sane, and not much of financial validation either

then, what do I know-I'm not a poet. I just know quite a few. I mean before here.

but I relate, a lot.

I usually want to write like Pushkin or Lorca or...you get the picture. In short, I'm doomed.

When I was younger I was at least smarter and didn't show it to anybody. poems I mean. Now I probably gone soft in my brain. Or maybe I give less of a damn. Who knows.

And yes you're so very right..it's so much easier to love other people

Thank you for sharing this post and your poems, -as I'm almost never on Notes I'd miss them for sure. Do write, that's what I can say 🤍

I hope your "I'm not a poet" comment is as sarcastic as my "...any sane person seeking financial validation and recognition would attempt—poetry" line. You are definitely a poet! Also, good to know that you would have missed it. I'll make sure to keep up with these posts that show my Note highlights.

ah it was sarcastic? of course, I'm an idiot. see, gone soft in the brain. In my defense should have gone to bed already, usually i show a bit more promise in mornings.

mine's not sarcastic, you're just too kind -but who knows, maybe it'll become better. After all if not to write then there's little chance for it.

yes, please do -I miss tons of Notes, I hardly keep up as is, also it became a very confusing space, with "related notes", in short, I'd be grateful .

Did you find your reader #s went up w/ the 800-1200 word posts? (think you may have said they did). Just curious. Sarah Fay suggests around 750-1000 for best readership (and in j-school, it's all about brevity to hold onto the reader to the last paragraph).

Nope, it didn't make a difference at all.

Oh! Interesting! Well, then I won't have to watch my editing so much, gracias!
