A beautiful piece, Rene. I definitely identify with your line "I am an expat and I’m owning it; it's me, has been me for so long now, I feel it’s been engraved hard down and deep."
No, I'm going to add quotations around the words "serial killer." They were in Sara Braun's Palace, and the chef told the story of how she would select young men to sleep with and then kill them. There is no evidence of it, though. She was better known for her humanitarian and charitable work haha. I was just going to tie in the Chef's story to how my parents ended up in there.
That video you at thirteen is great! Your dad really sounds amazing, which I know bc I read your poem which is something I almost never do!
I was raised in Argentina but lived in Chile for three years. Here's a shortie about those experiences. https://open.substack.com/pub/renegvolpi/p/nostalgia?utm_source=direct&r=1gbjgn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I appreciate your comment. Thank you! ✌️ May I ask where you sail from?
I was born in Chile and grew up in Canada but my family is from Belgium. Now I live in Spain.
Cool! So you speak at least three languages.
At least I try to.
Was the serial killer still living in that house?!?!?
