A guide to nonconformity. Salir de las fronteras que impone tu mente.
Who is Born Without Borders for?
It's for anyone who wants to unshackle the chains of conformity. It’s for people unlearning what holds them back, global citizens looking to increase their cultural competence, and whatever target demographic has disposable income to keep this afloat.
What do you get for subscribing?
Through my stories, articles, and interviews, I can help raise your understanding of the world, challenge societal conditioning, unravel cognitive bias, and step outside your comfort zone.
Together, we can decrease polarization, help people look from the outside in and the inside out, create a community for those whose sense of home isn’t tied down to geography, and—
Fuck, I’m getting tired of taking myself too seriously with this sales pitch. I’m here to write and get paid for it. As someone who often writes autobiographically, you occasionally get to read self-delusions. I also overshare, according to my therapist and mom.
What do you get out of paying?
For $5/month (or $30/year), you get:
Full access to an archive with stories, interviews, and information for which cultural consultants charge over $100/hr.
The paid subscriber chat where you can ask me anything about cultural psychology, language-learning tips, the places I've visited, and the craft of nonconformity. Regarding Spain, I can also provide immigration, real estate, travel, and any other consejo y formas de ayuda for those considering moving or travelling here.
You ensure this project stays on a platform that isn’t controlled by ads.
I might upgrade to more than one cabin bag.
Want to upgrade to a founding member? Citizenship marriages are on the table.
At the end of every journey, I write a book. You can find my first one, Living with the In-Laws, on Amazon. Paid subscribers get a free Kindle or PDF edition of my next book. Founding members get a signed paperback.
Cool Cool, but who are you?
I’m Nolan, a man of no land. I'm a writer, cultural consultant, guiri, actor, older brother, ocean lover, irritable cabron, hot sauce enthusiast, third culture kid fascinated by cultural psychology—but mostly, I'm inescapably foreign. I was born in Santiago de Chile, took my first steps in Antwerp, Belgium, and grew up in British Columbia, Canada. And the moment I felt a deep sense of home in Vancouver, Canada, I ended up in Spain.
Examples of what you’ll find here.
On the homepage, you’ll find my writing and interviews divided into Cultural Competence, Travel Writing, Stories, Politics & Rhetoric, Language Learning, Lifestyle & Health, and Podcasts. The truth is, they all intersect.
This is a super 'about' page and (whisper it quietly), your use of video is spot on too. It has even made me consider adding one to my own start here page, an idea which feels like unexplored, dangerous territory at this point, perfect for a brief side quest! Thanks for this!
A wonderful aim for your newsletter. Bravo.
